"What is so rare as a day in June?...." 19th century American poet James Russell Lowell asked. Bassets answer "a day in May," or "a day in August", or "October," or any of the other six or seven months a year when you can get in several good, long runs--without getting your feet too wet.
Abby is drawn into a lively race in the hopeless pursuit of a couple of monarch butterflies. Even the Queen Anne's lace waves her graciously on her way. Being a Basset American Princess herself, Abby feels quite at home with the royals. On the other hand she doesn't feel at home with that poet, stuck behind his desk writing about the glories of nature, instead of being out in it. Abby doubts that Lowell even worked up a good pant.
