Three fine Michigan Bassets by the fire, painted for their adoring humans. Interesting enough, huh? But this portrait and these dogs are even more interesting than you might think.
First of all, notice that they are all pictured in their prime--about 6 years old. Secondly,
see how contented they are on their shared bed by the fire? Actually, one was positioned near a tree out in the yard; another by the fridge in the kitchen. And the third sitting by the door waiting to go out.
But the most amazing thing is that the two lying down Bassets were seven years apart in age and the front dog had crossed the rainbow bridge 8 years before the painting was made.
But this is how the humans wanted to remember them--as their beloved pack all together at the same time in the same cozy place. Sometimes a painting can capture the imagination better than a photograph.
