$25 From the safety of his gated porch, a Basset sentry stands guard over his house and, indeed, the whole neighborhood. He observes human and canine passerbys and sometimes a squirrel or cat, and sends out the alert. Occasionally he exchanges fierce trash talk with would-be dog trespassers who dare to step off the sidewalk and into his grass.
Rumor has it he and two chums are employees of the National Security Agency, which explains why they always wear camo. Together they help enhance the range of the town's sirens several times a day, part of their assignment.
By the way, pansies thrive in this safe but exciting environment.
