Comment: I seldom paint a picture this small. But we were snowed in and the only painting surface I had on hand was a 12 x 12 in. piece of Gessobord. So I went ahead and created a little oil of my dogs on the stair. (The zebra pattern is not my stair.)
I really liked the painting; however, I wanted it larger to go over our mantle in the den. After confabbing with our rep at the Giclee plant, I ordered an enlargement to 183 percent of the original size. With liner and frame, the final picture is 27 in. square. Just the right size, I think.
If you're looking for a good time, call B-A-S-S-E-T-S. This breed finds adventure everywhere, in the most mundane of activities and places. For instance, did anyone ever notice that the standard stair tread is the exact length of a full-grown Basset in repose? That the Basset muzzle fits perfectly between the spindles to give a passing human a quick lick if he needs some attention or affection? That the risers are the precise height needed for two Bassets to position themselves on adjacent steps and let a limb or chin rest comfortingly on another pack member? Coincidence? We think not! Obviously, staircases were designed using a Basset Hound template.
Stairs offer a splendid venue for naps. They also enable a bit of fun, as it is easy to barricade other Bassets upstairs or downstairs, and pretend you don't hear their yipping complaints. For even more fun, try blockading a human on the stairs. That's when the real adventure begins!
