A Basset Hound's approach to croquet is the same as it is to most of life's activities... expend as little energy as possible and position yourself at the center of attention. In this case, the subject of the picture has succeeded brilliantly at both.
   Another advantage is that while human participants are scurrying about in the heat and swatting at mosquitoes, this canine champion is enjoying the tickle of cool grass on his tummy.

Comment: This painting began with two dogs, the one you see here and another sitting up with a mallet at her feet. Unfortunately, I slammed the hatch door of the car down on the nearly completed picture and my husband and his saw salvaged this single specimen.
