Aroused from their long winter's nap by the sound of sleigh bells, these Bassets venture out the dog door and discover--lo and behold--Prancer, or is it Dasher. While the neighbor's cat sends them into a tizzy, this friendly beast elicits awe and wonder. And who would have dreamed the Bassets would be asked to take part in a short round of reindeer games, right in their own back yard!

Bassets are born competitors, or at least some of them are--like those who show up at the Basset Hound Club of America's exciting annual show. The 2009 event will be held in the Northwest in Washington State at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, WA.
For many of the contestants, this will be their first opportunity to explore the wild west and to take in first-paw the native American arts and culture that abound there. One of the sights they'll no doubt enjoy when they take a break from the show ring or the agility course, will be this handsome totem pole. It stands at the Trading Post near the hotel and judging area.
