Le Pique-nique des Bassets Scroll down for options
A trip to the National Gallery in Washington and an exhibit of 19th century French artists' work of the Romantic period inspired this painting of three Bassets in a woodland glade. That's why I gave it this poncy French title, though the woods look very much like those in Virginia near my studio. The subjects don't seem to feel very romantic or poncy, however. Hungry is probably the best word to describe them. Hungry and excited to have come across such an unexpected treasure.
