Red & White Basset Nouveau Scroll down for options
On a recent trip to Central Europe, husband/manager Jack and I explored a number of art museums, seeking inspiration for my Basset paintings. Most amazing to us was the reintroduction to painters of the Art Nouveau school--men like Alphonse Mucha (Prague), Gustav Climt (Vienna), and Stanisław Wyspiański (Krakow). In particular, the poster art excited me, done using a variety of media and printing techniques, including hand-drawn type, in some cases.
My two-part series of Art Nouveau Bassets (see also Tricolor Basset Nouveau) attempts to emulate these styles. In particular I have tried to adapt the depiction of the wispy, winsome maidens who figured so prominently in Mucha's art to our beloved wispy, winsome Bassets. Below is one of Mucha's works illustrating his approach.
