The subject of this painting is a Basset's notion of a perfect Christmas Eve "happening". Aroused from their long winter's nap by the sound of sleigh bells, they venture out the dog door and discover--lo and behold--Prancer, or is it Dasher. Certainly not Rudolph.
While the neighbor's cat puts them in a tizzy of excitement, this friendly beast elicits awe and wonder. And who would have dreamed the Bassets would be asked to take part in a short round of reindeer games, right in their own back yard!
