What We Do? We create and sell oil paintings of dogs--mostly Basset Hound. Much of our business is in commissioned portraits. Most are Basset Hound paintings, but increasingly I am painting other breeds. I don't or can't paint all breeds, for instance I'm not very good at furry toy breeds or long-haired dogs, though I've painted a few to customers' satisfaction.

Who Are We? My husband Jack and I are retired professors. For the past 7 years, we have been proprietors of Shenandoah Basset Art Studio, specializing in oil paintings and reproductions of Basset Hound art. I am the artist, Jack is the business manager in charge of packaging, shipping, and inventory. We sell mostly online, but also visit and vend at several dog shows each year.

What's New? We would like to expand our portrait services "officially" to other selected breeds, mostly short- or medium-haired dogs, from mid-sized to giant. Click on the link to Breeds for a list of dogs I have painted successfully already and those I feel confident I can paint well.

Sizes and Prices? My paintings and prices include frames wired for hanging and shipping. Sizes run from miniatures (6 x 6 in.), painted on wood, to 28 x 20 in. for classic portraits on gesso board or canvas, with dogs embedded in surroundings, interior or exterior. Classic portraits are $375 for one dog and increase by $50 for each additional dog up to $575. (Note: Bassets Hounds are $25 less because I've painted so many of them and know them so well! All scent hounds are 10% off the regular price.) At the present time, I am offering a 10 percent off sale on Pugs and Vizslas.
